§ 90773 Petition Signature Verification

Key Takeaways

  • •If you collect signatures for a petition, you must swear that every signature is real and from the person who signed it.
  • •The person in charge checks the signatures against official voter records to make sure they are valid.
  • •If enough real signatures are found, the petition gets approved and sent forward.

Example

You start a petition to add a new playground in your neighborhood.

You collect signatures from your neighbors, and you must promise that each one is real. The local office checks these signatures against voter records. If enough are valid, your petition moves forward for review.
