§ 5389 Charter-Party Carrier Inspections

Key Takeaways

  • •The government can check the cars, offices, and papers of companies that drive people around for money (like party buses or limos).
  • •If the company has other businesses it owns or works with, the government can check those too.
  • •The company can choose where the government copies its papers (at their office or the government’s office), and the government will pay for the copying.
  • •Even if a company acts like it drives people around for money but isn’t officially registered, the government can still check them.

Example

A limo company that takes people to prom gets visited by a government worker.

The government worker can look at the limo company’s cars, offices, and records to make sure everything is safe and legal. If the company has another business that helps with the limos, like a repair shop, the government can check that too. The limo company can pick where the government copies its papers, and the government will pay for it.
