Key Takeaways

  • •Stockton and nearby areas need one big transit system to help people get around.
  • •Right now, there are different transit services, but they don’t work together.
  • •A single system will make travel easier and better for everyone.

Example

Imagine you live in Stockton and need to take a bus to work, but the bus doesn’t connect to the train you need to take next.

§ 50010 Stockton Transit District Establishment

It is necessary that a transit district be established in the Stockton metropolitan area which includes the City of Stockton and adjacent territory situated in San Joaquin County in order to meet the transit problem of the area. The problem is unique in that presently there are several existing transportation facilities serving various parts of the area but independently operated, without interchange of transportation services, and without possibility of merger. The geographic location of the city to the area requiring transportation services makes it necessary to develop a single transit system to protect the public interest. (Added by Stats. 1963, Ch. 839.)
