§ 409 Public Utility Fee Deposits

Key Takeaways

  • •Money from fees and charges (not penalties) goes to a special account for the Public Utilities Commission.
  • •Penalties from breaking rules go to the General Fund, not the special account.
  • •This is about where the money goes, not how much you pay.

Example

You pay a fee for your electricity bill.

That fee goes to a special account to help run the Public Utilities Commission. But if the electricity company breaks a rule and gets fined, that fine money goes to the General Fund instead.
