§ 27422 Voter Petition For Election

Key Takeaways

  • •People in a special transit area can ask for a vote on something without the government deciding first.
  • •They need to get at least 10% of the voters in that area to sign a paper to make this happen.
  • •This paper is given to the secretary of the district to start the voting process.

Example

A group of people in a neighborhood want a new bus route, but the city hasn't decided yet.

If they get 10% of the voters in their area to sign a paper asking for a vote, the city has to hold an election about the bus route.
