§ 27063 District Annexation Without Election

Key Takeaways

  • •This law is about adding new land to a special area (like a district) without asking the people who live there to vote on it.
  • •The people in charge (the board) just need to follow the usual steps for adding land, but they skip the voting part.
  • •Once the board decides to add the land and tells the state, the land is officially part of the district.

Example

Imagine a small town wants to add a nearby farm to its area so the farm can get town services like water and trash pickup.

The town leaders follow the normal steps to add the farm, but they don’t ask the farm owners or workers to vote on it. Once the town leaders agree and tell the state, the farm is now part of the town.
