§ 25844 Transit Facility Funding Authority

Key Takeaways

  • •Local areas can take money or loans from the U.S. or California to build or fix buses, trains, or other public transit.
  • •They can work with the government to get help paying for these transit projects.
  • •They can make deals or do whatever is needed to get this money, even if other rules usually say they can’t.
  • •Any papers or promises to pay back the money are official and can be traded or sold.

Example

A city wants to build a new subway line but doesn’t have enough money.

The city can ask the state or federal government for a loan or money to help build it. They can sign contracts and follow the rules to get the money, even if normal rules would stop them. If they borrow money, the papers they sign to pay it back are real and can be used like a check.
