§ 24828 Director Nomination Procedures

Key Takeaways

  • •If you want to run for a special office (like a district director), you have to follow rules to get your name on the ballot.
  • •You can start getting signatures for your nomination papers 95 days before the election, but you must finish and turn them in by 74 days before the election.
  • •You must also sign a paper (affidavit) saying you’re allowed to run, and you have to do this at least 74 days before the election.
  • •The person in charge (secretary of the district) will check everything and send the names of all the candidates to the election office 67 days before the election.

Example

Imagine you want to run for school board director in your town.

You have to get people to sign a paper saying they support you, but you can only start collecting signatures 95 days before the election. You have to turn in those papers and sign your own paper (saying you’re allowed to run) by 74 days before the election. If you miss the deadline, your name won’t be on the ballot.
