§ 14051 Unincorporated Territory Annexation

Key Takeaways

  • •This law lets a piece of land that's not part of any city or town join a nearby district.
  • •The process to join must follow the rules in the Cortese-Knox-Hertzberg Local Government Reorganization Act of 2000.
  • •The law was updated in 2005 and started being used in 2006.

Example

Imagine a small community with farms and houses that isn't part of any city. They want to join a nearby school district to get better schools for their kids.

This law says they can do that, but they have to follow the steps in the Cortese-Knox-Hertzberg Act. They might need to ask the people who live there if they want to join, and then ask the government for permission.
