§ 120240 Board Property Acquisition Powers

Key Takeaways

  • •The board can get land or stuff (like buildings or equipment) in different ways: buying it, getting it as a gift, renting it, or even taking it if they really need it (but they have to follow special rules).
  • •They can only take or use land/stuff if it helps them do their job better.
  • •The board can also sell, rent out, or get rid of land/stuff they don’t need anymore.

Example

Imagine the board needs a new building to help more people, but the perfect spot is someone’s old warehouse.

The board can try to buy the warehouse from the owner. If the owner won’t sell, the board might be able to take it—but they have to pay a fair price and prove they really need it.
