§ 11646 Ward Board Member Ballots

This law requires that election ballots list each ward's candidates separately, showing the ward name and the people running for that ward.

Key Takeaways

  • •Ballots must group candidates by ward.
  • •Each ward's candidates are listed under a distinct heading.
  • •The layout must make it clear which candidates belong to which ward.

Example

A voter in a city goes to the polling place and sees the ballot divided into sections labeled 'Ward 1', 'Ward 2', etc., with the names of the candidates running for each ward listed under their respective headings.

Because of this statute, the ballot must clearly separate the candidates by ward so voters can easily choose a candidate from the ward they live in.
