§ 15798 District Name Change Process

Key Takeaways

  • •The board can change the name of the district if they want.
  • •They have to make an official rule (called an ordinance) to do it.
  • •They must tell the State Controller, the State Board of Equalization, and the board of each county that has land in the district about the name change.

Example

Imagine your school district is called 'Sunny Valley School District,' but the board wants to change it to 'Happy Hills School District.'

The board would first make an official rule to change the name. Then, they would tell the important state offices and the counties where the district is located about the new name.
