§ 105330 District Dissolution Election Rules

This law says that if a district doesn't run any rail transit, the board can ask voters if they want to shut down the district. If enough voters sign a petition, the board must ask everyone to vote on it.

Key Takeaways

  • •The district must not run any rail transit for this law to apply.
  • •The board can decide to hold a vote on shutting down the district anytime.
  • •If 25% of the voters from the last big election sign a petition, the board must hold a vote on shutting down the district.

Example

Imagine a small town has a transit district that doesn't run any trains. Some people think the district is useless and want to close it.

If at least 25% of the voters who voted in the last big election sign a petition, the board has to hold a vote so everyone in the town can decide if the district should be shut down.
