§ 100100 General Manager Powers

The general manager runs the VTA's daily operations and answers to the board, handling hiring, budgeting, planning transit projects, and providing yearly financial reports.

Key Takeaways

  • •The manager heads the VTA's administrative branch and reports to the board.
  • •The manager can appoint, supervise, suspend, or remove VTA officers and staff.
  • •The manager prepares and submits the annual budget and a yearly financial report to the board.

Example

The manager decides to add a new bus route to connect a growing neighborhood, hires extra drivers, and updates the budget to pay for the new buses.

Because the manager can plan transit facilities, supervise staff, and prepare the annual budget, they can add routes and hire drivers, and must later report on the finances of that change.
