§ 100021 Santa Clara Transit Definition

• •An “existing system” can be a public or private transit service.
• •It must either operate entirely inside Santa Clara County or earn at least 40% of its revenue‑vehicle miles from trips inside the county.
• •Charter‑party carriers and charter services of passenger stage corporations are NOT counted as “existing systems.”

A private bus company runs all its routes inside Santa Clara County and 45% of its yearly revenue comes from trips that stay within the county.

Because the company’s service is completely inside the county and more than 40% of its revenue‑vehicle miles are in the county, it is considered an “existing system” under this law.
