§ 1054 Civil Penalties For Violations

This law says if someone breaks certain rules (sections 1050 to 1052), they can be sued for triple the damage they caused, even if they weren't criminally charged.

Key Takeaways

  • •Breaking certain rules can lead to paying triple the damage in a lawsuit.
  • •You don’t need a criminal conviction to sue for these damages.
  • •The person harmed (or their family) can file the lawsuit.

Example

A company dumps toxic waste into a river, breaking environmental rules.

The people affected can sue the company for three times the damage (like medical bills or lost income), even if the company wasn't criminally convicted yet.
