§ 80550 Security Interest Exemptions

Key Takeaways

  • •The government doesn't need to ask for permission to take or sell property if someone doesn't pay their debt.
  • •If the government takes property because of unpaid debt, they don't have to follow the usual rules for selling it.
  • •The government must sell the taken property at its current market price.

Example

Imagine you borrowed money from the government to buy a car, but you didn't pay it back.

The government can take your car without asking anyone else for permission. Then, they can sell it right away at its current price without following the normal steps for selling things.
