§ 80480 Hazardous Material Loan Approval

Key Takeaways

  • •The government can give loans to clean up dangerous stuff (like chemicals) that spilled or might spill on certain properties.
  • •They have to talk to other important people before saying yes to the loan.
  • •The loan can only be used to fix problems with dangerous spills, not for anything else.

Example

A gas station has old underground tanks that are leaking gas into the ground.

The government might give the gas station owner a loan to clean up the leak so it doesn’t hurt people or the environment. But they can’t use the loan to buy new gas pumps or fix the roof.
