§ 40520 County Budget Apportionment

Key Takeaways

  • •The south coast district decides how much money each county must pay to help run the district every year.
  • •The amount each county pays is based on how many people live in that part of the county compared to the whole district.
  • •They use the latest census or population numbers from the government to figure this out.

Example

Imagine two counties, County A and County B, are part of the south coast district. County A has 10,000 people living in the district, and County B has 30,000 people. The total population in the district is 40,000.

If the district needs $400,000 to run for the year, County A would pay $100,000 (because 10,000 is 1/4 of 40,000) and County B would pay $300,000 (because 30,000 is 3/4 of 40,000).
