§ 34322 Low-Income Housing Rental Rules

Key Takeaways

  • •Housing projects must be rented only to people with low income at prices they can afford.
  • •The size of the apartment must be big enough for the family to live safely and comfortably, without too many people in a small space.
  • •Rent prices are decided based on family size, age, disabilities, and other factors that affect how much they can pay.
  • •Tenants are not allowed to sublet (rent out) their apartments to others.

Example

A family of four with a low income applies for an apartment in a housing project.

The housing authority will check if the family's income is low enough to qualify. They will also make sure the apartment has enough rooms for the family to live comfortably. The rent will be set at a price the family can afford based on their income and needs.
