§ 33435 Redevelopment Property Nondiscrimination Rules

Key Takeaways

  • •If you buy or rent property in a redevelopment project, you can't refuse to sell or rent to someone because of their race, religion, disability, or other protected reasons.
  • •You can't have rules that keep certain people out based on things like their family status, unless it's housing specifically for older people.
  • •All contracts or agreements for these properties must include a rule that says no discrimination is allowed.

Example

You own an apartment in a redevelopment area and want to rent it out.

You can't say 'no kids allowed' or refuse to rent to someone because they use a wheelchair. But if the apartment is in a senior housing complex, you can have rules about age.
