§ 13822 Local Agency Formation Process

Key Takeaways

  • •If enough people sign a petition or a government group asks, a special group (called a 'local agency formation commission') has to start working on it.
  • •The special group must follow the rules in a specific part of the law (Chapter 5) to decide what happens next.
  • •This is about how new local agencies (like city or county groups) can be formed or changed.

Example

A group of people in a town want to create a new fire department for their area.

If they get enough signatures on a petition, the local agency formation commission must follow the rules in Chapter 5 to decide if the new fire department can be created.
