§ 12603 Pyrotechnic License Exemption

Key Takeaways

  • •If you have a pyrotechnic license, you don’t need an extra license to make or use fireworks for movies, TV, theater, or opera.
  • •This only applies if the fireworks are for a specific show or to keep a small stock for special effects.
  • •This rule is for people who work in entertainment, not for regular fireworks sellers or users.

Example

A special effects team is working on a big action movie and needs to create explosions for a car chase scene.

They don’t need a separate manufacturer’s license to make or set off the fireworks for the movie because they already have a pyrotechnic license and are using the fireworks just for that scene.
