§ 1252 Health Facility Special Services

Key Takeaways

  • •Special services in hospitals or health places are special teams that do specific jobs, like physical therapy or speech help.
  • •These teams must follow extra rules to make sure they do a good job.
  • •If a nursing home gives therapy to people who don’t live there, it counts as a special service.
  • •The government can still check if nursing homes are following therapy rules, even if they’re not called 'special services'.

Example

A nursing home has a team that helps people learn to walk again after an injury.

If this team helps people who don’t live in the nursing home, it’s called a 'special service' and must follow extra rules. If they only help people who live there, it’s not a special service, but the government can still check if they’re doing a good job.

(b) This section does not limit the department’s ability to evaluate compliance with the therapy requirements for nursing facilities and skilled nursing facilities established in Title 22 of the California Code of Regulations during investigations or inspections, including, but not limited to, inspections conducted pursuant to Section 1422, or to limit the department’s ability to enforce the therapy requirements. (Amended by Stats. 2014, Ch. 288, Sec. 1. (AB 1974) Effective January 1, 2015.)
