§ 124595 American Indian Health Panel

Key Takeaways

  • •There is a special group called the American Indian Health Policy Panel that helps the state decide how to spend money and set rules for American Indian health programs.
  • •This group has 10 members: 4 from rural Indian health groups, 4 from urban Indian health groups, and 2 regular people like patients or doctors.
  • •The group can make its own rules about how long members stay on the panel.
  • •The state health director can also ask other people or groups for advice, not just this panel.

Example

Imagine a small clinic in a rural area that serves Native American families needs more money to buy medicine.

The American Indian Health Policy Panel would look at this problem and tell the state health department, 'This clinic is important, and we should give them more money to help these families.' They make sure the state knows what’s needed.
