§ 117740 Medical Waste Facility Proximity

Key Takeaways

  • •Medical waste must be treated on the same property where it is made or very close by.
  • •If the treatment place is not on the same property, it must be within 400 yards (about 4 football fields) from the property line.
  • •This rule helps make sure medical waste is handled safely and nearby.

Example

A hospital has a machine to treat its medical waste, but the machine is in a building next door.

The hospital can use that machine if the building is on the same property or within 400 yards. If it's farther, they can't use it.
