§ 104525 Research Grant Types

This law lets the state give money to support different kinds of research projects, such as grants for individual scientists, new researchers, research centers, and conferences in California.

Key Takeaways

  • •Grants can be given to an institution for a single researcher’s project.
  • •New investigators early in their careers can receive special grants.
  • •Whole research centers with many collaborators can get long‑term funding.
  • •State money can also fund conferences held in California, including travel for out‑of‑state speakers.

Example

A university wants to host a conference about renewable energy and asks for state money to pay for speakers and travel costs.

The university can apply for a conference grant under this law, and if approved, the state will pay for things like honoraria and travel for invited guests from outside California.
