§ 103300 Amending Vital Record Information

This law lets a doctor or coroner fix mistakes in the medical part of a death, fetal death, or birth record by filing a special statement with the registrar.

Key Takeaways

  • •A doctor or coroner can correct the medical info on death, fetal death, or birth records.
  • •The correction must be made using a declaration as described in Section 2015.5 of the Code of Civil Procedure.
  • •The corrected statement is filed with the state or local registrar.

Example

A hospital records a baby's birth weight as 8 pounds, but later discovers the baby actually weighed 7.5 pounds.

The baby's doctor, who knows the correct weight, can fill out a declaration (as required by Section 2015.5) saying the record should show 7.5 pounds and send it to the state or local registrar to update the birth record.
