• •All money in the Public Health Federal Fund is given to the health department.
• •The department can spend the money any year, not just the year it was deposited.
• •The money must be used for the purposes it was originally meant for.

The fund receives $5 million to fight a flu outbreak. The health department can use the whole $5 million right away, even if the money was put in during a different budget year.

Because the law says the money is appropriated without regard to fiscal years, the department doesn’t have to wait for a new budget year to spend it; it can spend it now on flu vaccines and clinics.
