§ 100335 Population Data And Trends

This law lets the department keep studying births, deaths, marriages and divorces, get extra population data, look at things like fertility and abortion, check how the population affects health and the environment, and suggest programs that protect people’s rights and the environment.

Key Takeaways

  • •The department can continuously study vital events like births, deaths, marriages and divorces.
  • •It can ask the Finance Department for extra demographic data and collect any other data it needs about families, fertility, abortions, etc.
  • •It can look at how the current and future population affects health and the environment.
  • •It can make program recommendations that respect individual rights and protect the environment.

Example

The department notices that the number of divorces in a town has gone up a lot over the past few years.

Using the powers in this law, the department gathers more data, tells the state legislature about the trend, checks how it might affect community health, and recommends that the state fund more family counseling services.
