§ 1151 Board Member Residency Requirements

This law says that anyone put on this board must be a U.S. citizen, live in California, and if they are chosen under certain rules, they must live in one of a specific list of counties, and they can serve for up to four years.

Key Takeaways

  • •Board members must be U.S. citizens and live in California.
  • •If appointed under certain parts of Section 1150, they must live in one of the listed counties.
  • •They serve at the pleasure of the appointing authority, but no longer than four years.

Example

A city council member from San Francisco is appointed to the board.

Because they live in San Francisco, which is on the approved list, they can take the board seat and will stay on the board until either they are removed or four years pass, whichever comes first.
