§ 1146 Pilot Fatigue Assignment Refusal

• •Pilots may refuse a pilotage assignment when they are physically or mentally tired.
• •The pilot must reasonably believe the job can’t be done safely.
• •Refusing under these conditions is protected by law.

A pilot has been on duty for many hours, feels exhausted, and thinks they might make a mistake while guiding a ship.

Because the pilot feels physically and mentally fatigued and believes the job isn’t safe, the law lets them refuse the assignment without getting in trouble.
