§ 9905 Legislative Requirements Conflict Rule

Key Takeaways

  • •The law lets the Legislature add more rules for itself, as long as they don’t go against the main purpose of this chapter.
  • •If the Legislature makes a rule that fights with this chapter, this chapter wins.
  • •This part was added in 1984 by the people voting on Proposition 24.

Example

Imagine the Legislature makes a new rule saying they can meet in secret, but this chapter says all meetings must be open to the public.

The secret meetings rule would not be allowed because it fights with this chapter. The open meetings rule in this chapter would win.
