§ 9702 Legislative Bill Printing Orders

Key Takeaways

  • •Before the Legislature starts, the Secretary of the Senate and the Chief Clerk of the Assembly must print all the bills and constitutional amendments that have been approved by the Rules Committee.
  • •If a Member or Member-elect of the Senate or Assembly wants to print a bill after the general election, they don't need approval from the Rules Committee. They just need to write a note saying they plan to introduce the bill when the session starts.
  • •All the printing is done by the State Printing Office, and the cost comes from the money set aside for legislative printing.

Example

A newly elected Assembly Member wants to print a bill about school lunches before the next session starts.

If the Assembly Member writes a note saying they plan to introduce the bill when the session starts, the Chief Clerk of the Assembly will order the State Printing Office to print the bill. The cost of printing will be paid from the money set aside for legislative printing.
