§ 90008 Campaign Finance Disclosure Rules

Key Takeaways

  • •People in California should know who is giving money to political campaigns and how that money is being spent before an election happens.
  • •The government can check records to make sure people are following the rules about reporting campaign money, even if the records haven't been turned in yet.
  • •The rules should be easy to understand and followed quickly so everyone knows the facts before voting.

Example

A person running for mayor gets money from a big company but doesn't tell anyone about it before the election.

The law says the government can check the person's records to make sure they reported the money, even if they haven't filed the paperwork yet. This helps voters know who is paying for the campaign before they vote.
