§ 86205 Lobbyist Conduct Prohibitions

Key Takeaways

  • •Lobbyists can't try to make politicians feel like they owe them favors.
  • •Lobbyists can't lie or trick politicians about important facts related to laws or rules.
  • •Lobbyists can't pretend that regular people support or hate a law if they don't.
  • •Lobbyists can't say they can control what politicians do if they can't.

Example

A lobbyist tells a politician that a lot of people in their town support a new law, but really, those people don't even know about the law.

This is not allowed because the lobbyist is lying about what people think to try to get the politician to support the law.
