§ 75526 Felony Conviction Benefits Forfeiture

Key Takeaways

  • •If a judge commits a serious crime (like a felony) while being a judge, they lose their retirement benefits.
  • •The crime must be either really bad (like stealing or lying) or done while doing their judge job.
  • •The judge only gets back the money they put into the retirement system themselves.
  • •This rule starts after the judge is officially found guilty and can’t appeal anymore.

Example

A judge takes bribes to let criminals go free.

If the judge is caught and found guilty, they lose their retirement money from the state. They only get back what they paid in, not the extra benefits.
