§ 66426 Subdivision Map Requirements

Key Takeaways

  • •If you split land into 5 or more pieces, you usually need a special map approved by the government.
  • •You don’t need the special map if the land is small (less than 5 acres), each piece touches a real road, and no new roads or fixes are needed.
  • •You also don’t need the map if each piece is 20 acres or bigger and has a real road to reach it.
  • •If the land is for big businesses or factories, and the government already likes the road plans, you might not need the map either.

Example

A farmer wants to split his 100-acre land into 6 big pieces to sell to other farmers.

Since each piece is 20 acres or bigger and has a road to reach it, the farmer doesn’t need the special map.
