§ 66338 Junior Adu Utility Connection Rules

Key Takeaways

  • •A small extra home (junior accessory dwelling unit) on your property won't be counted as a new home for water, sewer, or power services.
  • •Cities can still make rules about fees for these services, but the rules must be the same for all single-family homes, whether they have a small extra home or not.
  • •You might still have to pay connection fees, but they can't treat you differently just because you have a small extra home.

Example

You build a small extra home in your backyard for your parents to live in.

The city can't charge you extra water or power fees just because you added this small home. They also can't make special rules just for you—they have to treat your home the same as any other single-family home.
