§ 65910 Open-Space Zoning Ordinance

Key Takeaways

  • •Every city and county must create rules to protect open spaces like parks and nature areas.
  • •These rules must match the local plan for keeping open spaces safe and available.
  • •The rules had to be made by December 31, 1973.

Example

A city wants to build a new shopping mall on a big empty field where kids play and families picnic.

The city must check its open-space rules first. If the field is protected as open space, they can't build the mall there. They have to keep it as a park or nature area.
