§ 65048 Environmental Goals Reporting Requirements

Key Takeaways

  • •The Governor must update and send a report about California's environmental goals to the Legislature every four years.
  • •The report must match the state's planning priorities.
  • •The Governor can ask the Legislature for advice on changes to environmental goals anytime.
  • •A state office must report every year by January 1 on how the environmental goals are being put into action.

Example

Imagine the Governor wants to add a new goal to protect more forests in California.

The Governor would include this new goal in the big report sent every four years. Before making big changes, the Governor might ask the Legislature for their thoughts. Then, a state office would check and report every year on how well the new forest protection goal is working.
