§ 57140 Special Election Voting Rules

Key Takeaways

  • •If there's a special vote to decide if an area should change how it's organized, people who live there or own land there can vote.
  • •If you live in a city or a place where only registered voters decide things, you get one vote.
  • •If you own land in a place where landowners get to vote, you might get more than one vote, depending on the rules of that place.

Example

Imagine your town wants to join another town to share schools and roads. They call a special vote to decide.

If you live in this town, you get one vote. If you own land in a nearby area where landowners get votes based on how much land they own, you might get more votes if you own a lot of land.
