§ 57091 Voter Protests In Annexations

Key Takeaways

  • •If most people in an area protest, the plan to change the area's boundaries stops.
  • •If some people protest (but not most), there might be a vote to decide.
  • •If very few people protest, the change can happen without a vote.
  • •The rules are different for places where people live vs. empty land.

Example

A small town wants to join a nearby city to get better services like trash pickup and schools.

If more than half the people in the town say no, the plan stops. If only some say no, the town votes on it. If almost no one says no, the town joins the city without a vote.
