Key Takeaways

  • •The hearing about the proposal must happen on the date and time given in the notice.
  • •The hearing can be delayed, but not more than 60 days from the original date. If the proposal includes an incorporation, it can't be delayed more than 35 days.
  • •At the hearing, the commission will summarize their decision first, then listen to any complaints or evidence from people.
  • •If you wrote a complaint, you can take it back anytime before the hearing ends.

Example

Imagine your neighborhood is planning to become its own town, and you don’t like the idea. You write a letter to complain.

The meeting to talk about this plan has to happen on the date they told everyone. If they delay it, they can’t wait more than 35 days. At the meeting, they’ll explain their decision first, then listen to your complaint. If you change your mind, you can take back your complaint before the meeting ends.
