§ 56754 City Annexation Williamson Act

Key Takeaways

  • •If a city wants to take over land that has a special farm contract (Williamson Act), they have to decide what to do with that contract.
  • •The city can either take over the county's job for that land or say no to taking over.
  • •They have to make this choice based on real proof and facts, not just guesses.

Example

A small town wants to grow bigger and take over some nearby farmland that has a special contract to keep it as farmland.

The town has to decide if they will follow the same rules as the county for that farmland or if they don’t want to handle those rules. They can’t just ignore the contract; they have to pick one of these two options.
