§ 32322 Member Contribution Rates

Key Takeaways

  • •The amount you pay into the retirement system depends on how old you are when you start.
  • •If you earn more than $500 a month, only the first $500 is used to calculate what you pay.
  • •The older you are when you start, the higher the percentage you pay from your salary.
  • •If you are part of a special group (Section 32341), only the first $300 of your salary is used unless you choose otherwise.

Example

A 30-year-old teacher starts working and earns $600 a month.

Only the first $500 of their salary is used to calculate their retirement contribution. Since they are 30, they pay 6.25% of $500, which is $31.25 each month.
