§ 32254 Fire District Board Elections

• •If a county has all its firefighters working under one or more fire protection districts (and none under the county forester or fire warden),
• •Then, two extra members (the second and third) on the board must be chosen from the firefighters who are part of that fire protection district and also part of the system.
• •This rule was added in 1947 to make sure firefighters have a say in decisions.

Imagine a county where all firefighters work for local fire districts, not the county itself.

In this case, two of the people on the board that makes big decisions about fires must be actual firefighters from those districts.
