§ 31617 County Cost-Of-Living Contributions

Key Takeaways

  • •This law is about how extra money from interest on a special fund can be used.
  • •If a county had an agreement before 1983, some of the extra interest money can help pay for cost-of-living increases.
  • •The extra money is what's left after other required payments are made from the fund.

Example

Imagine your county has a savings account for retirees. The account earns some interest money.

After paying for other important things, the leftover interest money can be used to help give retirees a little more money to live on, if the county agreed to this before 1983.
