§ 29874 County Warrant Purchase Approval

Key Takeaways

  • •The state can buy special money notes (called 'registered warrants') from a county if it helps the state's goals.
  • •The county must be allowed to ask for this help first.
  • •The state's money boss (Treasurer) must say it's okay before the purchase.
  • •The state can buy all or part of what the county asks for.

Example

A county needs money to fix roads but doesn't have enough cash right now.

The county can ask the state for help. If the state thinks it's a good idea and the money boss agrees, the state can buy the county's money notes to give them cash now. The county then pays the state back later.
