§ 27291 Financing Statement Recording Option

Key Takeaways

  • •Some offices can choose to record (save) important money-related papers instead of just filing them.
  • •They can only do this if they use a special system that doesn’t let anyone change the saved papers.
  • •They must keep a backup copy of these papers in a safe place.
  • •If they need to show these papers in court, a copy is just as good as the original.

Example

A bank wants to make sure they have proof that someone owes them money for a car loan.

The bank can ask the recorder’s office to save the loan papers in a special system that can’t be changed. The office must keep a backup copy safe. If there’s a problem later, the bank can use a copy of these papers in court.
